3/4/2010 There were a few restaurants that I regretted missing out on when they closed. L'Orangerie was a big one, then Bastide. Another was Citrus at Social. So when a media invite came from Cafe Pierre in Manhattan Beach bearing the name of Remi Lauvand, formerly of Citrus at Social, I was quite happy to accept. Casual but Nice 7/21/2009 Overall, I'm giving this a thumbs up. The food was enjoyable and the service was attentive.

I had the grilled octopus salad which was huge.  It wasn't the best grilled octopus I've ever had but it was nice and meaty with perhaps just a touch too much olive oil on the salad leaves.  I also had the brandade which was also huge.  At first, I was a bit surprised at the presentation but in the end it won me over with its honest flavors.

I also tried the pork cheeks which were deliciously tender and porky.  For dessert I recommend the caramel panna cotta, a touch too sweet but a great dessert nonetheless.

This is also one of the few restaurants in LA that serves vichyssoise.  They didn't have it the night I went but it is on the menu so keep your eye out.

Viva la Manhattan Beach! 8/11/2008 It's all about the steak au poivre, shoe string fries, and the bread pudding (extra hot).  This place is so yummy, I ended up proposing to my hottie wife at this joint.  The staff is super friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and most importantly, the food is excellent.

Those days are over for me, but I would highly recommend this restaurant as a date place or a special night out.  She'll be impressed that it's French (and not Carl's Jr.), you won't spend an entire paycheck, you'll get to have steak, she'll get to have wine, and you'll both get to have a great meal.

Mr T's Verdict:  I pity the fool who's never had the steak au poivre here!

Love It! 1/1/2000 I love the steak frites here!!!  I have cravings for it and it keeps me coming back.  Usually, I'm not a fan of bread pudding but this place does a great job.  Tip - order the bread pudding "hot".
