Vinum Populi is a one of the kind wine bar where you can try an ounce at a time. What you do is buy a card (min $10) and then go and select the wines you want to taste by inserting your card into an automated wine dispenser. As the wine pours into your glass, your card is debited by the price shown. The idea is really genius and innovative when you think about it. As for atmosphere, I can't say enough. The environment makes it easy to start up a conversation with a complete stranger and the fact that you're drinking liquid courage doesn't hurt either. The service is first class. The employees probably aren't experts in wine, but they're really friendly and even remembered me by name the 2nd time I went there. It's also a great place to bring a first date. I've taken two different females there already and scored major points with both. This place has it all. No negative remarks!

Wine tasting by the ounce

This Culver City wine bar has automated wine dispensers that output by the ounce. Buy a $10 debit card from one of the servers, place the card in one of the designated slots, press the button, and the machine dispenses a one ounce pour of the selected wine.
This is a great place to experiment with different wines without having to buy an entire glass. They had a varied collection of wines from Spain, Italy, California, and France. I tried everything from a white Basa (under $1 /pour) to the 95 Shafer Hillside cab select ($20/pour).
