In terms of the Akamaru Modern, the thick, creamy broth was made from pork bone as stated above. With the addition of spicy miso paste, and garlic oil, the broth was enhanced beautifully with those two additions.

I love my ramen broth rich. None of that salt-based stuff for me, I love slurping pure liquid porkiness.

The $14 price tag aside, the attitude about the pork bun ordering and taking cookies in aside, this was conceivably the best bowl of ramen I've had in the US.

The sidewalk outside the restaurant is commonly lined with hungry ramen seekers due to Ippudo's immense popularity and annoying no reservation policy.

Oh no! Frank Bruni just reviewed it in the NYTimes giving it 2 stars!

I went 2 months ago and still had to wait 45 minutes. Then I read in the NYTimes that Frank Bruni likes this place-- just reviewed 2 weeks ago too! Darn! Another place with a crazy wait made crazier thanks to the media! Sigh. I had meant to go back but now, I'm scared-- the ramen is, indeed, very very perfectly chewy. You can get an extra portion of ramen for a few dollars more-- I would highly recommend that option :) to extend the meal further. Their berkshire pork ramen is their most popular dish and is, indeed, good... but too fatty for me. But then again, I guess for some peeps that's what makes it all tasty?
Again, I'd go back, but I'm afraid to now. Bruni gave it 2 stars, and it's one of those under $25 meals. Given the sign of the times, the cheap good places are gonna be packed and I just can't wait more than an hour for food. Maybe go when ppl are just getting out of work, like before 6pm?!
