Located in Highland Park, Good Girl Dinette bills itself as "American diner meets Vietnamese comfort food." The good girl behind this stylish restaurant is Diep Tran, the former co-owner and chef of Blue Hen. Ms. Tran's family owns the chain of Pho 79 restaurants in Orange County and Alhambra. Clearly, being a restaurateur is in her blood.

Good Girl is good to me

I've been going to Good Girl Dinette since they first opened their doors. They have the most wonderful takes on Vietnamese classics and always use fresh local ingredients. Everything on the menu is so delish. I get into ruts because I will have the same thing over and over. Getting hungry. Gotta go.

where good girls go to dine
10/16/2009
i've always wondered where good girls go to eat especially in this city of dirty, dirty, bad girls. apparently, highland park has a little dinette for good girls just like me. awesome.
a group of friends went to good girl to taste chef and owner diep tran's thoughtful renditions of asian comfort foods. if the flavor profiles appear a bit familiar, she was once co-owner of blue hen so perhaps you ate something similar there? i support sustainable foods and even though that may translate into pricier eats, then i make my adjustments....like showering less to save on the water bill and wearing underwear that have holes in them just so i can delay new underwear purchases. KIDDING. good girl dinette serves sustainable foods and i think that is HOT.
we started off with the fries which were thin fries with a lovely asian twist of chilis, parsley, and soy sauce for dipping. we also got the fried tofu on rice which reminded me of my momma's cooking. i ordered the pot pie which was tasty, but i did not dig the hard biscuit top. i hear that's a favorite amongst most customers though so you should probably give it a try. i got a bite of the pork banh mi and omg, i would have ordered it too if i didn't already look like a pregnant woman from all the eating i've done. the night rounded out with two desserts: the almond jello with kumquat sauce and coconut banana bread pudding. hands down, the almond jello stole my heart.
delicious gem in highland park. i suggest you give it a try, but if you are adverse to pricey vietnamese eats thinking that you can get it cheaper in chinatown or orange county, then there's probably no point eating sustainable foods here. BUT, if you don't mind, GO TO GOOD GIRL DINETTE! i hear all the good girls eat there!
